Antigone Avdi
Antigone Avdi studied and worked as an architect in Thessaloniki, where she was born. In 1991, she moved to the UK. In 1993, after receiving her master's degree in Architecture from the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies - York University, she began her vocational studies in contemporary dance at the London Contemporary Dance School. In 2022 Antigone returned to Greece.
As a performer, Antigone has participated in Compositions in The Dark, curated by Alexis Tsiamoglou (Thessaloniki May 2023) and has worked amongst others with Die Wolke art group (Thessaloniki March 2023), Sasha Milavic Davies & Lucy Railton (produced by Complicité: online adaptation 2020 & Dance Umbrella _ London 2018), Isabel Lewis (Tate Modern_ London 2017), Iris Karayan (Athens 2017), Yvonne Rainer (Raven Row Gallery _ London 2014), Tino Seghal (Tate Modern _ London 2012), Rosemary Lee, Fevered Sleep, Rahel Vonmoos, dANTE OR dIE, Frauke Requardt, Garsington Opera, YELP danceco, Rachel Gomme, Cie. Felix Ruckert.
In 2010 Antigone created Sketch 1.1.8 in collaboration with composer Reynaldo Young, with performances in London (United Kingdom), Cagliari (Italy) and Athens.
Between 2011 and 2015 Antigone co-curated Agony Art a series of independent and self-organized evenings of dance, experimental music, improvisation and audiovisual works (29 in total), presented at Chisenhale Dance Space, London. In 2019, she co-curated Making An Exit, a 24-hour marathon, celebrating solidarity, diversity, creativity and community. Making An Exit, as well as the series Open Clusters (Oct 2014 - June 2015), were funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
